Adopt a Nursing Home

Here's an idea - Adopt a Nursing Home, Retirement Home, or Assisted Living Facility.

We currently hold weekly Bible studies in 2 facilities but there are many others in St Tammany Parish.  Could your group start a Bible study in another facility?

One of our groups is having a fishing tournament at a facility - Is that COOL of what?

The aged are a growing and underserved community.  Can your group help serve it?

Dinner Party Club

Here's a fun idea - How about hosting dinner parties and sharing some fun, fellowship, and food with people you don't know so well.  What better way to establish a relationship than over good food.  Jesus did it and it seemed to work very well for Him.

You could do barbecues, crawfish boils, fish frys, tapas dinners, potlucks, mexican nights, italian nights, cajun nights, progressive dinner parties, and whatever else you might think of (e.g. gumbo mmmm).

What other ideas do you have?

LG NEAR Project Report Form & Meeting on 4-28-13

The green forms we handed out last Sunday were provided for your use in developing information for your NEAR projects.  We will want that information provided back to us next month (stay tuned for details) and will want that information provided to us in the meeting scheduled for 12:30 in the Hub on April 28th.

At that meeting we will ask you to present your NEAR Project information with details such s that on the report form as we provide you a scrumptious lunch. More to follow so stay tuned.

Video Update for You

Check it out:

Please tell others in your life group that help you coordinate your NEAR Projects about this blog.

Adopt a Neighborhood

Your group's members live in a neighborhood.
Why not adopt a neighborhood?

You could hold Bible studies in your life group members homes in those neighborhoods.
You could also throw a block party - our association has a block party trailer for you to use.

Love your neighbor as yourself!

Kids In Transition

Check out this information - Maybe your group can make the difference in the life of a teenager.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters

Consider volunteering as a group to become Big Brothers or Big Sisters to disadvantaged youth.

World Changers

World Changers is coming to LaCombe this summer.
We are looking for a group to represent us as the host church for this event.

"A host church is a local church that has been enlisted to support the World Changers project by hosting a crew for worship and lunch on Sunday.

Host churches are also asked to provide lunch daily at work sites.

Churches are chosen strategically by the Associational Coordinator to encourage and promote cooperation among local churches."

5th Sundays - Faith in Action

Here is an idea.

Every fifth Sunday, your group is out in the community on a Sunday (say after the early service) or another day and reaches out to those in need by being there where they are and helping them.

Our sister church - Bridge Church - does this and here is a sample of some upcoming events:

1. Repairing a house damaged by Hurricane Isaac in Madisonville (LINK)

2. Another house damaged by Hurricane Isaac will need to be rewired & maybe replumbed due to age.

3. Wheelchair Ramp for a member of the Madisonville First Baptist Church.

4. Another wheelchair ramp project (LINK)

5. Family Day at area Work Releases.

In April, we're planning Family Day Block Parties at both of St. Tammany's work releases. We usually present certificates to any men that have completed courses. We also, like to do a craft with the kids. Something that presents the gospel ideally. Then we also give away Bibles, etc.

CHECK THIS MESSAGE OUT FROM PASTOR LANE CORLEY:

If you have any groups that would like to partner in this work, that'd be great. I'll let you know the exact dates, but they will be on Sunday afternoons in April. One of the work releases is in Covington, the other is in Slidell. These are non-violent, no sex offenders and 90% or so are local with release dates within 3 years. Many of their families are living & doing life around us. Great time to connect with them, serve them, invite them.

Human Trafficking Safe House

Contact Tim for information about this opportunity after March 27th.

Backyard Bible Club

This idea is a being explored by Tommy's group and is an excellent way to get the kids involved.
It sound like it's basically an on-going VBS for neighborhoods - How cool is that?
Ask Tommy or Michael what they're doing if you're thinking of the same idea for you group.

Life Group Think

Just a thought here.

Perhaps it's best to ask your Life Group members to think of ideas for NEAR Mission Projects by themselves and not in a group setting.  Often what happens in a group setting is that ideas, when announced out loud drive the next idea and so on.

Creative ideas are best left to generate from within after prayer - the Holy Spirit is our best counselor.

Try it and see what happens - Why not challenge your Life Group to return the next week to return with at least one idea per person.  I think you might get a better pool of ideas.

Fairhaven Children's Home - Covington

I spoke to Johnny Huffman at Fairhaven Children's Home yesterday.  He says the best thing groups can do to connect with them and perhaps assist them is to visit the home in person.  Johnny can be reached on his cell at 985-264-5052 or at his office at 985-892-1134.
